Levelling Up Regeneration Plan To Start At The Oak Mall
Work to demolish the eastern end of Oak Mall is expected to start the second quarter of 2024, as part of the £20m transformation of Greenock town centre
Around 40 per cent of the shopping centre will be knocked down under the regeneration plan which also includes major road and public realm changes and is being funded through the UK Government’s Levelling Up initiative.
An update to Inverclyde councillors states that demolition work at the mall is due to get underway between March and June.
Council offices at Hector McNeil House (the former Central Library) in Clyde Square are also to be knocked down. Space is to be created for a new learning quarter and campus.
Proposed road changes include redesigning and lowering the A78 flyover to ground level to improve access and create better connections to the town centre, and replacing the Bullring roundabout with a new low-level crossroads
Roads demolition and contract commencement is expected to start in the third quarter of 2024 with contract completion in the first three months of 2026.
