Dalglen Gets Go-Ahead For Two Drive-Thrus At Port Glasgow

Permission has been granted for two drive-thru food and drink outlets in Port Glasgow.

The development will be beside the A8, at the site of the former Port Glasgow job centre on Scarlow Street, which is being demolished.

The application was made by Rebecchi Architectural on behalf of Greenock businessmen Sandy and James Easdale’s property investment company Dalglen, which owns the site.

The former job centre is currently being demolished with the cleared site available to purchase through Bowman Rebecchi.

No details are given in planning documents about any potential operators for the units.

A decision report issued by Inverclyde Council planners states: “This well-connected location within the town centre is considered appropriate. It is not considered that the premises would draw trade away from other centres.

“As the site accommodates a currently vacant premises, this proposal would additionally bring clear community and economic benefits.”

Roads officials stated: “Given our experience of drive-thrus in the area, there should be a minimum of 10 vehicles queuing after the order point to mitigate future queuing on to Scarlow Street at busy periods as vehicles queuing on to Scarlow Street may compromise road safety.

“The applicant should show they can meet this for the southernmost drive-thru. The applicant has demonstrated that this can be achieved.”
