Scot To Break Ultramarathon World Record In Touching Tribute To Late Pal

A Scots man is set to break an ultramarathon world record in memory of his late friend who died by suicide.

Chris Thomson, from Dumfries and Galloway, will run 33 miles every day across all 32 council areas of Scotland in memory of his friend, who died aged 33.

Chris is challenging himself to become the first and fastest person to ever run 32 ultramarathons in all 32 council areas of Scotland within 32 days.

The adventurer will put his best foot forward from June 5 in a touching tribute to his friend, who tragically took his own life after battling mental health difficulties.

Chris will run 33 miles every day until July 6 to mark each year of his friend's life after he passed away at the age of 33.

His Inverclyde leg will take place in Greenock on 9th June 2024, with Bowman Rebecchi providing support for his challenge with accommodation at its Harbour Lets property in Gourock.

Chris, who has left behind his corporate career to take on the challenge, said: “I'm doing this for all those we've lost to mental health battles and cruel diseases. They may be gone, but their memory will fuel every step of this journey.

"Having my own struggles too, I know the importance of keeping ourselves healthy."

In total, Chris will cover 1,056 miles in the hope of raising £100,000 for charities such as Movember, Mind, Dementia UK, British Heart Foundation, MNDA, My Name’5 Doddie Foundation, and Maggie’s Cancer Care.

He continued: "All of these charities are lifelines for so many, and together, with the public’s support, we can make a real difference as I am to raise over £100,000”.
