'A number of major retailers' have shown interest in snapping up a development site in Port Glasgow, according to the local businessmen who own the land.
Brothers James and Sandy Easdale, who own property firm Dalglen, are selling the land in Scarlow Street which was formerly home to the town's Job Centre.
The firm recently secured planning permission from Inverclyde Council for two drive-through food and drink units on the site.
Following the completion of demolition work at the site last autumn, the land, which covers 33,368 square feet - slightly more than three-quarters of an acre - is being marketed by local commercial property firm Bowman Rebecchi, who are seeking offers of more than £800,000.
A spokesperson for the Easdales said: “There has been good interest from a number of major retailers and we are in discussions to secure the best option for the site.
"The Port Glasgow site is in a high-profile, central location, with excellent access to the road network and public transport infrastructure."
However, the brothers remain tight-lipped over the identity of the retailers who have shown interest in the land.
Last year the Easdales announced that Dalglen had bought the Cartsburn site occupied by Greenock's EE call centre, which closed its doors at the end of November, with EE staff being transferred to Glasgow.
They also bought the site of the former Balrossie children's home in Kilmacolm, which is earmarked for a £20 million housing development, in October, and in the same month announced the purchase of the 5.42 acre site previously occupied by Berry BPI, which has also moved out of Inverclyde.
In their report on the Dalglen planning application for the site, which secured approval in June 2024, Inverclyde Council planners concluded that the development would not affect trade elsewhere in the area.
In the decision they said: “This well-connected location within the town centre is considered appropriate. It is not considered that the premises would draw trade away from other centres."
The brothers, who own Inverclyde Taxis and the McGills Group, announced plans to develop the Scarlow Street site in June 2022, promising it would create between 40 and 50 jobs.
Under the conditions of the council's approval for the site, planning officers say there should be no more than 10 vehicles queuing from the order point onto Scarlow Street, in a bid to minimise the safety risk to pedestrians and other drivers.
